Dear Dr. Nagler,
I have mild tinnitus for 18 months now and did habituate pretty well to it to the point it does not bother me.
Things have changed though in the last couple of days.
I took a high dose of Doxycycline (200mg) for 14 days to treat a urinary tract infection, the antibiotics did not clear the infection but left me with Candida, a yeast infection of the mouth and to make matters even worse, the genitals.
On advice from my GP I stopped the antibiotics and started the next day with Itraconazol (Sporanox) and Daktacort creme to help fight off the yeast infection. I have read anecdotal reports however that Sporanox can cause permanent hearing loss and indeed tinnitus is also list as a possible side effect.
Since taking it for a couple of days I felt fullness, treshhold shifts for a few seconds in my ears and woke up today to significantly increased tinnitus and now I am worried that my mild tinnitus might get permanently worse because of all the different drugs.
Do you have any experience with these type of drugs and there role in tinnitus or existing tinnitus ?
Should I be worried and ask my GP to change the drugs or stop taking them immediatly ?
I apologise for my English , it is not my first language.
Thanks for any answer you can provide and a Happy New Year to you and your loved ones.
